 ed in 1997 by Dr. Bayu Wirayudha\, Friends of the National Parks Foundatio
 n (FNPF) is an Indonesian non-profit\, grass-roots\, conservation organiza
 tion working to protect wildlife\, restore habitat\, and improve the well 
 being of local communities. FNPF works closely with local communities\, cu
 stomary and cultural groups\, government\, researchers\, volunteers\, and 
 the global conservation community. They employ\, educate and improve the w
 ell being (social & economic) of the local communities in the vicinity of 
 each project.\n\nFNPF’s upcoming project is in the village of Besi Kalun
 g (about 50km northwest of Denpasar)\, a group of local farming communitie
 s in the center of a UNESCO world cultural heritage site\, famous for its 
 rice-farming culture. FNPF aims to introduce sustainable\, community-based
  eco-tourism into Besi Kalung so that farmers in the region can become ben
 eficiaries of tourism in the area\, as opposed to objects of tourism as th
 ey are now.\n\nThe challenges FNPF is facing:\nCurrent challenges that FNP
 F faces with this project relate mainly to finding appropriate sustainable
  technology and infrastructure for the planned development. As well as thi
 s\, critical funding is needed for the vision of Besi Kalung to become a r
 eality\, and funding ideas are greatly needed.\n\nMain desired outcomes:\n
 - feedback concerning sustainability\n- thoughts/ideas for what sustainabl
 e technology could be implemented in this project\, specifically with maki
 ng the development in Besi Kalung\, which will eventually be handed over t
 o be operated by the Besi Kalung community\, self-sustaining\n- feedback o
